今夜は何のお祝いだったの？
今日は、オーストラリアの建国記念日。本国オーストラリアにおいては、すべての州と地域において国をあげて盛大に祝う、大切な祝日です。
このオーストラリア建国記念日に、オーストラリアという国を、そしてまたオーストラリア人であることの素晴らしさを国民をあげて祝うのです。この日は、歴史の中で我々オーストラリア人が成し得てきたこと、また、誇りに思うことを改めて感じることの出来る日なのです。また、これから先もこの国がより良い国になるように、国民ひとりひとりが改めて心に誓う日でもあります。
１月２６日に何があったの？ なぜ今日なの？
1788年、大英帝国のアーサー・フィリップ大佐(後のオーストラリア植民地提督)が、囚人たちを乗せた11隻の船からなる艦隊を率いて、シドニー・コーブ(シドニーにある入り江)に到着し、そこにユニオンジャック(英国国旗)を掲げ、植民地支配の始まりであることを知らしめたのです。
WHAT ARE WE CELEBRATING HERE IN FUKUOKA?
Australia Day is January 26, and is the biggest day of celebration in Australia. It is observed as a public holiday in all states and territories.
On Australia Day we come together as a nation celebrate what's great about Australia and being Australian. It's the day to reflect on what we have achieved and what we can be proud of in our great nation. It's the day for us to re-commit to making Australia an even better place for the future.
WHAT HAPPENED ON JANUARY 26, 1788 - AND WHY THIS DAY?
In 1788 – Captain Arthur Phillip, commander of the First Fleet of eleven convict ships from Great Britain, and the first Governor of New South Wales (the state Sydney is in) arrived at Sydney Cove on January 26 and raised the Union Jack (the British flag) to signal the beginning of the colony.
